Mark Fast Fall 2024 Cosmic Couture: Celestial Threads Unleashed
Mark Fast stumbled upon inspiration for his fall collection while wandering a graffiti-covered street in Milan, aptly named after Italian designer Joe Colombo. Curiously, he paused and pondered, ‘Why am I stopping here?’ The moment felt organic, a serendipitous encounter.
Rather than directly referencing Colombo’s work, Fast used it as a springboard to explore his own interpretation of modern elegance. His vision? Rock stars descending from distant planets, arriving on Earth—what attire would befit them?
This intergalactic concept materialised in a delightful array of eclectic designs. Velvet chenille dresses intertwined with Fast’s signature fishnet crochet, some adorned with faux-fur hemlines, necklines, or viscose fringing. The color palette spanned black, neon, and burgundy. Notably, this season featured more daywear across both women’s and men’s collections. Denim jeans were fastened to denim boots, hoodies and tees proudly displayed Fast’s graffiti tag—a nod to his ‘younger audience.’ Cropped puffer jackets hugged the body like corsets.
In addition to his imaginative touchpoints and Colombo’s influence, Fast had a muse in mind: Lily-Rose Depp, whom he previously dressed for Vogue Australia. ‘She’s cool,’ he mused, drawn to her film-star energy and artistic strength.
According to Fast, his clientele—the Mark Fast man and woman—thrives on risk-taking and sartorial experimentation. However, this season, he opted for a touch of modesty, covering what he’d typically reveal (though a hint of skin remained). As he surveyed his collection, Fast even considered pilfering a few pieces for himself. ‘It’s nice—I can actually wear my own creations and feel the customer’s vibe.’
